International Meeting of Pavement Artists in Grazie di Curtatone - 14th/15th August

My pavement artist history is linked to Grazie di Curtatone, a town in the Province of Mantua situated on the banks of the Mincio river, where a splendid Sanctuary can be found dating back to the 1400s dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Every year, during the celebrations of Our Lady of the Assumption, during ferragosto, which takes place on 15th August, the grand piazza facing the Church becomes filled with several artists hailing from Italy and all over the world. It is the Incontro Internazionale dei Madonnari, an initiative organized by Pro Loco and the Municipality of Curtatone with the sponsorship of the Lombardy Region. This is an extraordinary moment for comparing works in which I have been taking part since 1983. I have never missed one edition.

The competition opens in the late afternoon on the 14th August and ends with the prize giving ceremony the following day. During the 24 hours that we have at disposal, we complete our works under the watchful gaze of the Jury and the Public, who have access to the area during the entire event.

In 1997 I received the title of Master Pavement Artist, a goal which represented the stimulus for a constant and further improvement of my technical abilities, my chromatic sensitivity and composing creativity. In 2004 I reached the most sought-after target by winning the Masters’ first prize with the making of an original work entitled Harmonia Mundi, in which among herons and lotus flowers, the figures of Christ and Mary seem to free themselves in a cosmic and eternal dance.

The following are the main prizes that I have won over the years:
* 1994 – Simple Pavement Artists’ “Special Award”
* 1995 – 1st Prize Simple Pavement Artists (access to the Leading Pavement Artists’ category)
* 1996 – 3rd Prize Leading Pavement Artists
* 1997 – 1st Prize Leading Pavement Artists (access to the Master Pavement Artists’ category)
* 1998 – Master Pavement Artists’ “Special Award”
* 1999 – Master Pavement Artists’ “Special Award”
* 2002 – Blessed Virgin Sanctuary “Special Award”
* 2004 – 1st Prize Master Pavement Artists (right to make the Placard 2005)
* 2007 – Blessed Virgin Sanctuary “Special Award”

Around Italy with the friends from C.C.A.M.

I have been involved for many years in the C.C.A.M. (Pavement Artists’ Cultural Centre), an association which promotes the Art of Chalk, to which about 30 chosen Pavement Artists belong.

Upon bookings, we participate in sacred or profane Events such as patron saint celebrations, village fairs and promotional displays. We show our works in exhibitions, churches and schools. We are able to offer as much of an artistic show as the public requests. We cover the entire national territory and also assess transfers abroad.

Children, Pavement Artists for a day.

I personally propose participations in elementary schools on customized events in order to spread the Chalk Technique to children, teachers and parents.
